Types
of Water Filtration Devices
The
following information is a brief description of
the most common styles of the many different
types of water treatment devices available on
the market today.
Point-of-Entry
System or Whole-house Systems:
Whole-house
filtration systems are also known as
point-of-entry systems are typically installed
where the water enters the residence and after
the water meter.
These systems treat the entire water
supply for the home, meaning that the water
used to wash, drink, and clean with has been
treated.
Point-of-Use
System or Faucet Mounted Filters:
Faucet
mounted or point-of-use systems only filters
water from the single tap or faucet that it has
been attached too.
Point-of-use filters are available in
several different styles including those that
can be attached to personal water bottles that
may be integrated with the push/pull cap of the
as well as with a straw.
Another type of point-of-use filter is
the pour through filter systems, which relay on
gravity for the water to drip through a
pitcher. Pour
through pitchers can be stored in the
refrigerator, or on the counter-top.
Another type of counter-top filtration
system is connected to the sink faucet and
dispenses filtered water from a spout or
separate tap.
Point-of-use
systems can also be plumbed-in.
Plumbed-in systems are usually installed
under the sink and are permanently attached to
an existing water pipe.
In addition, these systems can be
plumbed either to a separate tap or to the
existing tap.
